About

Advancing Research and Access for Better Bipolar Outcomes

Our Mission

The Bipolar & Depression Outcomes Research Institute (BDORI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving real-world outcomes for people living with bipolar and depressive conditions. We fund scholarships and research that explore how education and self-management can lead to lasting stability, functionality, and quality of life.

Our Approach

BDORI is guided by lived experience and scientific collaboration. We work with researchers, clinicians, and educators to design studies that measure what truly matters — functionality, awareness, and the ability to live IN Order across all mood states.

Our Work Includes:

  • Funding scholarships that make effective education accessible to everyone.
  • Partnering with universities and research institutions to validate results.
  • Sharing findings that shift mental health care toward functionality and self-management.

Leadership

BDORI is led by founder and Executive Director Tom Wootton, who brings both lived experience and decades of work developing education-based approaches to bipolar and depressive conditions. He is supported by an independent board that provides oversight and ensures BDORI remains focused on its mission of peer-directed, evidence-informed research and access.

Financial Transparency

All donations directly support scholarships and research initiatives. Annual financial summaries are available upon request.
