Our Mission
BDORI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit guided by lived experience and scientific collaboration. We work with researchers, clinicians, and educators to design studies measuring functionality, awareness, and the ability to live "IN Order" with bipolar and depressive conditions.
Our Approach
We focus on real-world outcomes, not just symptom reduction. Our research explores how education and self-management tools help people achieve stability, functionality, and quality of life. We believe that people who experience these conditions are essential voices in the research process.
Our Work Includes
Funding scholarships to expand access to evidence-based educational programs, supporting independent research on bipolar functionality, collaborating with universities and healthcare systems, and sharing data and insights that advance the field.
Leadership
BDORI is led by founder and Executive Director Tom Wootton, who brings both lived experience and decades of work developing education-based approaches to bipolar and depressive conditions. He is supported by an independent board that provides oversight and ensures BDORI remains focused on its mission of peer-directed, evidence-informed research and access.
Board of Directors
BDORI's volunteer board provides independent oversight, financial stewardship, and guidance on research priorities. Each member brings lived experience with mood conditions along with professional expertise.
Tom Flaherty — Director. Mental-health advocate with over 15 years of experience in peer support and program development.
Sheyla Stevens — Secretary. Administrative professional dedicated to ensuring accuracy, compliance, and community trust in BDORI operations.
Declan Devereux — Treasurer. Financial manager with extensive nonprofit experience focused on transparency and responsible stewardship.
Financial Transparency
