Awareness and understanding get used like they mean the same thing, but they don't, and the difference matters for how you actually respond to your states.

Awareness: Noticing What's Happening

Awareness is catching the shift in real time: the change in energy, thinking, or mood as it's happening, instead of realizing it three days later. It's a starting point, and on its own it's not enough.

Understanding: Knowing Why

Understanding goes further. It's knowing what tends to trigger a given state for you specifically, how your environment shapes it, and which of your responses actually help versus which ones just feel like they help in the moment. That's what turns noticing into a real choice about what to do next.

BDORI's Mission

Bipolar & Depression Outcomes Research Institute exists to build and validate the education that gets people from awareness to real understanding, and to measure whether it actually improves how people function, not just how they feel in the moment.
